Date Opened23 November 1988 Activity SummaryThe Centre's building in Canberra serves as its national headquarters for its exhibitions and programs in Canberra, throughout Australia and overseas. In Canberra, Questacon's seven galleries provide over 200 exhibits for visitors of all ages to enjoy hands-on learning about diverse topics relating to school curricula and to life-long learning. Science shows in Questacon's theatres and busking presentations in the galleries add to the dynamic of the visitor experience. During school holidays, special programs are conducted for school-aged children. Questacon-by-Night sessions and overnight Camp-Ins are regularly booked by school and community groups. As a national centre, Questacon delivers interactive science experiences to people in other cities, and throughout regional, rural and remote Australia. Questacon programs (including the Shell Questacon Science Circus, Questacon Smart Moves, Questacon Indigenous Programs and Tenix Questacon Maths Squad) travel thousands of kilometres each year to bring the excitement of science and innovation to local schools and communities. Questacon's travelling exhibitions are displayed in science centres, museums and community centres across Australia and internationally. Questacon is partially funded by the Australian Government with the balance of its operating budget coming from admission revenue, travelling exhibition rentals, sponsorship and other industry contributions.
