![]() MissionTo enhance knowledge, understanding, attitude, conscience, imagination and skill in science and technology in Thai society through scientific exhibits, activities, collections, science communication and research. Date Opened8 June 2000 Activity SummaryNSM is a state enterprise under the Ministry of Science and Technology and established by the Royal Decree on 31 January 1995. As a national center for life-long learning in science and technology, NSM provides various services and develops educational activities to promote learning, awareness and imagination of science among the public and especially among young people. NSM has a plan to develop and establish four museums located altogether in the Technopolis area. The first museum is the Science Museum, which is opened to public in year 2000. Second is the Natural History Museum, which has been opened since 2003. Third is the Information Technology Museum will be opened in 2007. The last one is the Ecology and Environment Museum, which will be started in 2006. ExhibitionNational Science Museum has many permanent and temporary exhibitions in both Science Museum and Natural History Museum. The Science Museum has an exhibition area of 10,000 m2. The exhibition consists of 5 topics: History of Science, Basic Science, Science and Technology in Thailand, Science and Technology in Our Daily Life, and Thai Traditional Technology. The Natural History Museum has one of the most comprehensive natural science collections and exhibitions. Permanent exhibition over 2,000m2 show biodiversity in Thailand as well as life origination and revolution with illustrations, models, and interactive exhibits that allow visitors to have first hand experiences in natural science. Public ProgramNSM develops the educational activities to serve the public of various age groups. NSM also organizes workshops and seminars for professional development in science communication to teachers and science communicators. Major activities include the science camp, science show, science drama, water rocket competition, and laboratories. Collection and ResearchNSM has a section of collection and research. In the past year, the Science Museum received a number of valuable science and technology artifacts. These items are used for research and in-house exhibiting. In the Natural History Museum, the Natural Science Research Department has executed a field survey and research on the diversity of amphibians, reptiles, ants and plants in several wildlife National Parks in Thailand.
