Call for Expressions of Interest - Science communication workshops at Osaka Expo 2025

Questacon, Australia's National Science and Technology Centre is excited to announce we will be hosting two workshops in May inside the Australian Pavilion at Osaka Expo 2025. Both workshops will feature views from eminent experts, lively discussion and practical case studies/examples, with a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge exchange between participants.

Attendance is by invitation and we would like to invite ASPAC members (maximum two from each institution) to participate.

Workshop 1: Communicating Quantum Science and Technology

When:                   Monday 19 May, 10:00am – 12:00pm

Where:                 Australian Pavilion, Osaka Expo 2025

Cost:                      Free, including entry to the Osaka Expo 2025 and the Australian Pavilion

At this workshop we aim to share and explore a wide range of ideas for communicating quantum science and technology, including through science demonstrations and education and engagement activities. Come along to learn and share ideas for the International Year of Quantum, and encourage exploration ‘beyond the black box’ of quantum technology.

This workshop is suitable for science communication and education experts interested in how to communicate and teach in innovative ways to build quantum literacy, and for quantum science and technology specialists interested in science communication, education, outreach & training to increase student interest in quantum skills and careers.

This event will be followed by light refreshments and networking.

Workshop 2: Science Communication and Trust in the Age of Artificial Intelligence 

When:                   Wednesday 21 May, 10:00am – 12:00pm

Where:                 Australian Pavilion, Osaka Expo 2025

Cost:                      Free, including entry to the Osaka Expo 2025 and the Australian Pavilion

At this workshop we will hear from leading experts, discuss issues of trust in science and explore the influence of AI on misinformation and disinformation, including implications for how science is understood, communicated, influenced and accepted.

The workshop is suitable for senior science and technology, science communication and education experts from a variety of sectors including government, education, museums/cultural and science organisations.

This event will be followed by light refreshments and networking.

Other science communication activities

At Osaka Expo 2025, Questacon will also be performing live Science Circus science shows over the period Saturday 17 – Wednesday 21 May (10am and 3pm daily) within the Australian Pavilion.

• Expression of Interest Submission Deadline: Monday 21 April 2025, 12:00 noon (Australian Eastern Standard Time)

Expression of Interest Guidelines

• Participation in the workshop will include entry to the Osaka Expo 2025 and the Australian Pavilion for the date of the workshop.

• All travel and accommodation costs to be covered by the participant.

• Maximum 2 participants per institution.
